The luxury backgammon set that doesn't charge a luxury price.
Hand-stitched in genuine tan leather, weighted to feel the way a proper set should, and made to roll up and travel with you. The craft of a set costing hundreds, kept honestly affordable, because a beautiful game should belong to everyone.
We have never seen the sense in that.

Luxury you can feel. A price you needn't flinch at.
Most handmade leather backgammon sets are priced to keep people out. The leather, the stitching, the weighted pieces, all real, and all wrapped in a number that quietly says "this isn't for you."
We have never believed in that. We have been making games since 1795 for ordinary families, not only collectors. So we hold our margins, keep our craft, and let the set speak for itself.
The same hands, the same leather
Cut, stitched and finished by hand. Nothing about the make is cheapened to reach the price.
No luxury tax
You pay for the set, not for a label betting on what you will tolerate.
Made to be owned, not admired in a window
A set meant to be played, packed, travelled with and handed down.

We have made this game for longer than most brands have existed.
Jaques of London has been making games since 1795. We gave the world the Staunton chess set, croquet and ping pong. For over 150 years we have crafted backgammon the slow way: by hand, in leather, the way the game deserves.
That heritage is the one thing a competitor cannot buy or copy. When you play on a Jaques set, you play on the work of the family that helped shape the game itself.
Today we are recognised the world over for handmade backgammon. The difference is, we still make it for everyone.
Own a piece of it →Every detail is the detail you would pay hundreds for.

Hand-stitched, not stamped out.
The tan board is real leather, stitched by hand and finished to age beautifully. It softens with use and looks better the more you play. This is the surface that separates a treasured set from a throwaway one.

Counters and dice with proper heft.
Light, rattly pieces give the game away in a second. Ours are weighted to sit and land the way a real set should, so every move feels considered and every roll feels honest.

The whole game, rolled into your bag.
It rolls up, ties shut and travels anywhere: weekends away, the garden, the kitchen table, the holiday. Everything stays put inside, so the set that looks this good is also the one you will actually take with you.

A complete game, ready to play.

For 230 years, Jaques has believed a great game belongs in everyone's hands.
We are still family-run, still making games the way we always have. We could charge what the leather and the heritage would allow. We choose not to, because the joy of a real set across the table should not be reserved for the few.
That is the whole idea behind this set: the finest backgammon we know how to make, at a price that keeps it open to everyone.
